Data Fictions

  • Flax Studio 1420 South Alamo Street San Antonio, TX, 78204 United States (map)

Join us for a pre-show party celebrating true identities. On August 31st, come dressed as your "Facebook categories" to be part of a photo series DATA FICTIONS documenting the border between our physical and online personas, opening next month at Flax.

How well do social media platforms like Facebook know us? At what point does our own sense of self b ecome shaped by the categories that are used to define us? What matters more: who you think you are, or who Facebook thinks you are?

Facebook collects data about you and uses that data to create “categories” that helps the company identify you to marketers. A peek into your categories might reveal some surprises about who you think you are, and who Facebook knows you to be...

To find your categories login to Facebook & visit: Settings > Ads > Your Information > Your Categories

Instagram alternative (Also owned by facebook still counts!): Settings > Account Data > Ads > View Interests

Dress to impress. Make us believe who you really are!

Suggested Donation: $5
The proceeds will go toward the production of DATA FICTIONS in October.
